10 appalling comments by Tory Politicians about Food Banks & people in Food Poverty.

There are now 1,080 Food Banks in the UK (full list here). 1 million people will access Food Banks in 2014. Despite this catastrophic level of poverty, Tory politicians remain totally oblivious to the suffering of the poor. Below are 10 comments uttered by Tory politicians that reveal just how out of touch they really are.

  1. Michael Gove MP claimed Food Bank users were “Not able to manage their finances” (evidence)
  2. A former Tory Minister claimed “the moment they [Food Bank users] have got a bit of spare cash they are off getting another ­tattoo” (evidence)
  3. David Cameron PM said Food Banks are “Part of what I call the Big Society” (evidence)

  5. Another Tory MP said people use Food Banks because of an “inability to manage money and to budget, addiction to alcohol or substance misuse..." (evidence)

  7. A senior Tory Councillor said Food Banks enabled poor budgeters to “have more money to spend on alcohol, cigarettes” (evidence)

No Benefit, No Job, No State Pensio

Food Banks in the UK are the only nation in Europe that give just 3 vouchers a year, instead of the state providing free cooked meals and hot drinks from local government staffed canteens. This mostly feeds pensioners and the working poor.

UK refused funding for food banks, themselves insufficient, as if you are hungry one day, you are hungry every day.

People from 60 are threatened with nil income in old age not just from the Pension Bill but worse to come with the Flat Rate Pension, that is less or nil income in old age forever for millions:

In daily mirror and independant scandal of million odd getting food parcels . And this just after the Maria Miller expenses scandal ...sickening

bobchewie said... speccy implies that foodbanks are popular like a latest dance craze and that ppl are using them because there are lots of them. Then telegraph scratches its head flummoxed by lots of food banks and asks what's feeding this food bank frenzy. Oh BTW you have been placed in top ten worst people on twitter. Let me guess if torygraph are connected
